It’s official: the battle between Andrea Antonelli and George Russell has begun. The 2026 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix left us breathless for its first 30 laps, with a clash between the two Mercedes drivers that had been brewing since the F1 Sprint race, after Russell forced his teammate off the track, prompting the latter to request a penalty over the radio. The fight between the two was relentless, with both drivers making mistakes, before finally coming to a complete halt when George Russell retired with engine problems.

This stopped the action of a Grand Prix that, even so, was very exciting. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen completed the podium thanks to McLaren’s terrible strategy of opting for intermediate tires at the start. Franco Colapinto was the best of the rest despite a slight touch to his front wing, and Carlos Sainz scored points again for Williams.
